It was my father's hometown, and some of the older folks still remember his family. There is so much to do and see in the Tawas Bay area. From visiting the Tawas Point Lighthouse out on the point, to the Lumberman's Monument on the banks of the beautiful Au Sable River, to Marion's, the local ice cream/soda shop right in town. Tawas Point Lighthouse The Lumberman's Monument was erected in 1931 as a lasting memorial to the lumbermen that harvested Michigan's giant white pine. A 14 foot bronze statue overlooks the beautiful Au Sable ("all sand") River. In the center, the timber cruiser holds a compass, to his left, a sawyer holds an ax and cross-cut saw.
