I realize this is a website dedicated to tourism in
On Sunday, Dec 7th (Pearl Harbor Day) I, along with three close friends, had the good fortune and opportunity to see the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings (outcome predictable), from a premium Motor City Casino suite, up on level 5 of the stadium. The stadium has a roof so even though, the wind chill was 6°, inside was as comfortable as a 68° living room, albeit a lot louder!
The stadium was way beyond nice. I understand it ranks among the nicer stadiums of the NFL! I thought
But the one feature that really stood out for us was the employees and staff. Very polite! Well mannered! Their congeniality and politeness were simply outstanding and impeccable! From the security team at the entrance I heard, “Good morning, sir. Welcome to Ford Field. How was your Thanksgiving, sir?” Then I heard, from the man with the metal detecting wand, “Thank you sir for your cooperation and patience. Enjoy Ford Field sir and enjoy the game.” Wouldn’t it be nice if a TSA agent treated us like that on our next Airport experience? All the way up to the level 5 suite, all encountered employees were so gracious and kind/polite! From the guy with dustpan and broom, to those pushing trash barrels, to employees in passing, to and fro! It was, “good morning. Welcome to Ford Field. Enjoy yourselves. Enjoy Ford Field. Big warm bright smiles, warmth in the voices! On the way out it was much the same; “How was the game folks, did you enjoy yourselves? Thank you for coming out to Ford Field, have a nice evening, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Wow! Unlike must public space employees, these people were not afraid to actually say Merry Christmas. (Not a wimpy muttered “Happy Holidays” with a lame and wan smile). The greetings were very bright, sincere, and very heartfelt. Not even in church does one get greeted like that.
Oh, I suppose one could argue that given the present economy, going to a football game is somewhat of a luxury. One which fans could stop doing to economize. Therefore, in a sense, perhaps the employees jobs are on the mind at every game.
Now, the sweet itself was well appointed. It felt as if we were in someone’s living room. The food was terrific-chicken tenders, dogs in buns, buffalo drummies, and of course, loads of chip and dips (three kinds of dip). Beer, soft drinks and water - self serve from the fridge. Also served were carrot cake, cheese cake, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, coffee, mixed drinks and tea. The game, well, never mind. It was on three HD monitors in front of the coffee table and chairs where we sat.
